Following Instructions To The Letter

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Mellody Davis The dictionary explains wisdom as having good judgement, understanding, comprehension and intelligence. It also explains wise as being perceptive, intelligent, and knowledgeable. It is written in Psalm 111:10 it says The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. Now Psalm 32:6 it says Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lords unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him. Proverbs 1:8 says The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Look at Proverbs 4:1 it says Listen, my sons, to a fathers instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. Now look at verse 6 it says Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Now look at verse 13 it says Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life. At verse 20 it says My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to a mans whole body. In Proverbs 8:10 it says Choose my instructions instead of silver, knowledge rather that choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies and nothing you desires can compare with her. I wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power. At verse 32 it says Now then, my sons, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not ignore it. Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord. Look at Proverbs 16:3 it says Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. The Lord works out everything for his own endseven the wicked for a day of disaster. At verse 6 it says Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord he makes even his enemies live at peace with him. Verse 9 says In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps. Verse 19 says Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed that to share plunder with the proud. Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who trust in the Lord. The wise in heart are called discerning, and pleasant words promote instruction. Understanding is a fountain of life to those who have it, but folly brings punishment to fools. A wise mans heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. Verse 33 says The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord. Proverbs 23:4 says Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint. Verse 12 says Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge. Verse 23 says Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding. Now in the book of 1Corinthians 14:26 it says What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church. In the book of Ephesians 6:4 it says Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in training and instructions of the Lord. In the book of 1Thessalonians 4:7 it gives us an instruction to please God. It says For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who reject this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit. Now in the book of 2Thessalonians 3:11 it says We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat. And as for you brothers, never tire of doing what is right. If anyone does not obey our instructions in this letter, take special note of him. Do not associate with him, in order that he may feel ashamed. Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother. 1Timothy 1:18 says Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight a good fight, holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith. Now 2Timothy 4:1 says In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge; Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encouragewith great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suite their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. Now look at James 1:5 it says If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who give generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. To conculde look at Colossians 2:2 it says My purpose is that they may be encourage in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by find-sounding arguments. For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is. Eight Keys to Heat-up a Cool Relationship

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Dr. Linda Miles 1. Celebrate Valentines Day Every Day: Love is a practice. Say I love you in the morning and at night….more is better. Share with one another the things that give you the greatest pleasure and help one another’s dream come true. For example if you partner loves music, bring home CDs or tickets to concerts often. If your partner loves football, watch with them on a regular basis. Remember these are GIFTS, done without resentment. You are dream-makers. A good relationship is like good sex—both partners give and receive what they want. 2. Heat-up The Bedroom: Since most men are visual, they appreciate lingerie. Women tend to need to be “talked up” during the day. However, everyone is different so you need a love map to one another. 3. Make Connections: Research shows that happy couples connect often with their eyes, a soft voice, and body language. Cool couples have habitual ways they distance. Communicate connection. Use soft eyes when you look at your partner and touch often. 4. Live Passionately And Not Just For Passion: A wise Native American once said, “As you go the way of life you will see a great chasm. Jump…It is not as wide as you think”. If your life is cool, how can your relationship stay hot? 5. In Loving The Spiritual It Is Difficult To Despise The Earthly: Develop a spiritual practice together. You can use prayer, inspirational readings, or meditation. Offer gratitude to one another by sharing one thing you appreciate about your partner before you go to sleep. This practice builds a positive emotional bank account. Spiritual practice generates warmth that heats up the relationship. 6. Don’t Just Survive, Visualize: Visualize your dream relationship. Close your eyes and feel the warmth and connection. Affirm what you want. Our unconscious mind is filled with negative thoughts. Retrain your brain. Many people never saw a model of a hot relationship so they need lots of visualization practice. A famous neuroscientist observed, “In the brain, practice makes permanent.” 7. We Cannot Stop Life’s Sorrows But We Can Choose Joy: Mother Theresa said, “Our best protection is a joyful heart” Have fun together. Act like kids. Masters and Johnson observed good sex is like two children under the sheets. 8. Wake Up Without Make-Up: We cannot have true intimacy unless we drop our masks. Live every day like Valentines Day instead of Halloween! Author, Dr. Linda Miles, is deeply committed to helping individuals and couples achieve rewarding relationships. She is an expert with a doctorate in Counseling Psychology, and has worked in the mental health field for over thirty years. Can I Eat Sugar Alcohols On My Low Carb Diet?

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Benji Paras “Polyols” or sugar alcohols are a number of differentcarbohydrates that are neither sugars nor alcohols–andare commonly used as artificial sweeteners in a rangeof products, from ice cream to chewing gum. While these tasty sweeteners appear to be the perfectsolution for both low-carb dieters and low-carbfood producers, recent studies of sugar alcoholshave painted a somewhat different picture. To begin with, sugar alcohols are not entirely carb-free.Most studies have indicated that sugar alcohols containapproximately 1/2 to 1/3 the amount of calories assugar–and in the form of carbohydrates. In addition, studies have shown that sugar alcoholsare absorbed by the small intestine, but the processis slower and fractured. This affects a risein blood sugar, but again is smaller and more gradualthan with sugar–and the rise tends to vary fromperson to person. Sugar alcohols also have a laxative effect on someconsumers. Since they are only partially absorbed, they bring water into the bowel–and undigestedcarbs into the colon, creating gas and bloatingas the carbs are acted on by bacteria. Over-consumption of sugar alcohols can oftenhave an adverse effect on low carb dieters, even when they can digest them properly.Sugar alcohols can trigger cravings inlow carb dieters, causing them to deviatefrom dietary restrictions. In addition, sugar alcohols can often causelow carb dieters to choose an unhealthydiet of sweets, which appear to be carb-free,over a varied diet that includes essential nutrients. If you are currently on a low carb diet and wantto mix sugar alcohol products into your diet,it is very important that you monitor your totalsugar alcohol intake–and keep it at a minimum whileconsuming a healthy diet. One easy way to do this is to determine the totalamount of carbs in sugar alcohol products you areconsuming. You can do this by subtracting theamount of fat and protein calories per serving from the total amount of calories per serving. Simply multiply the grams of protein by four and the grams of fat by nine. Now subtractthe sum of the two from the total amount ofcalories per serving. Using these figures, you can determine whetheror not carbs are being “hidden” in “carb free”sugar alcohol products you consume, allowingyou to make a better-informed decision thatfits the prescriptions of your low-carb diet. Law Firm Staff: Are They Treated as Equals?

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Nickie Freedman I attended an awards party last week honoring the “Best” lawyers in the community. It was a nice affair. One of the winners was a partner at a major national law firm. As I read his profile, I was struck by comments made about him by one of his law partners. I think much of what makes [him] a good attorney is that which makes him a good person[He] genuinely cares about people, which would, of course, include his clients and co-workers. [He] is one of the highest-ranking partners in our firm. But he knows all of the staff by name and talks to them on a regular basis. More importantly, he talks to them and everyone else as an equal. I believe his egalitarian views make him more accessible and likeable to clients and juries. The comments are telling in so many ways: 1. The attorney is a great person and probably great to work with. 2. Why is it unusual that an attorney would know all the staff by name and talk to them on a regular basis? I believe one of the biggest problems in firms today is the perception of inequality between attorneys and staff. I do staff surveys during training seminars and I ask them what their biggest frustration is. Among the top 3 is attorney attitudes toward staff. In the eyes of many staff members, the attorneys dont treat them as valuable members of a team. Instead, theyre thought of as secondary players in the firm. But lets be honest about this staff can make or break a firm. However, thats only one part of the equation. For everyone to truly work together, the attorney must think of his staff as a team and treat them as such. I find it rather sad that knowing all the staff by name and talking to them on a regular basis is considered unusual enough to comment on. In a perfect world, EVERY attorney (especially partners) would act in the same egalitarian fashion. After all, partners own the business. As a business owner, I firmly believe in talking to my staff on a regular basis. I also find it fundamental that a business owner take the time to find out employees talents and skills so that theyre fully utilized in the best manner possible. Its well known in the human resources field that employees dont stay at a firm because of pay; rather, its because they feel useful, fulfilled, and valued. Its a shame that many attorneys dont understand this fundamental concept. If they did, I believe that the award-winning attorney’s attitude and approach would be the rule rather than the exception. Excercises To Improve Intelligence

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

By Sharon Kennedy Tosten BRAIN AND BODY CONNECTION If your child is just starting to walk, or if you have dreams of them being a great athlete someday; or if they could use help with their coordination, these simple and fun drills will help stimulate both their body and their brain. Try these Easy to do-Brain and Body excercises to help create new neural connections and stimulate brain activity as well as increase spatial awareness and coordination. SPINS: Parent and child each hold up their right hand. Help child spin, alternating between clockwise and counter clockwise. Child tries to CLAP hands with parent and the end of each spin. KNEES and ELBOWS- Parent has child bring their knee up to Tap parent’s hand several times. Switch to other knee, then to each elbow. Parent then moves their hand randomly to either knee or elbow and child TAPS it. LOOK OVER YOUR SHOULDER- Parent stands behind child and taps either shoulder randomly. Child turns head the correct way and gets a Kiss, or Claps both hands with parent. JUMP UP, DOWN and SIDES- Parent holds hands out in a double “HIGH FIVE” position, randomly alternating from over the child’s head, down by their feet, to either side or behind the child. Encourage child to jump and clap hands, alternate speed and give an enthusiastic “GOOD JOB!” each time they make a loud Clap! Children participate best in these drills with a smiling, encouraging parent. I developed these and other drills, for my own son with autism and he participates enthusiastically. I initiate them randomly throughout the week. Stoke Your Body’s Furnace With Low Carbohydrate Food

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Nathan T. Lynch Though there are many different low carbohydrate diet plans, they are based on the same principles. When carbohydrates (such as starches and sugars) are consumed, the body’s blood sugar level rises. To counteract high blood sugar levels, the body releases insulin, which in turn increases fat storage and decreases the body’s ability to burn fat. When a low carb dieter restricts carbohydrates, his or her blood sugar is only slightly raised, thus preventing excess insulin production. But many low carbohydrate dieters hopes are ruined by uncontrollable sweet cravings, hypoglycaemic mood swings, hunger urges and lethargy. The truth about carbohydrate is that too much carbohydrate provides too many Calories and probably also has certain negative effects on blood glucose and insulin levels. Despite this however, the body must still have a minimum amount of carbohydrate (as glucose) to stay alive. Although the brain and nervous system normally want the most glucose, these organs can get along without it in a pinch. But that’s not true for certain blood cells and other types of cells. They must have a steady supply of glucose, because without it they’ll quickly die. For this reason, glucose is so important that your body will begin to make the glucose it needs for these cells out of muscle protein if it doesn’t get enough carbohydrate from food. But, although possible, this is a stressful emergency reaction (called ketosis), which also makes you miserable with hunger, cravings, and many other unpleasant sensations. Obviously, dieting would be much more successful if we could avoid all that. When your body runs low on any nutrient it needs to stay healthy, it naturally triggers hunger to make you go get it some more of that thing. But if you habitually eat foods that have too little of whatever it’s running low on and too many Calories, you’re going to get fat from this reaction. Fortunately you can lose the weight again by simply reversing the process. To do so, you learn to eat things that have lots of what your body needs but not many Calories. When you succeed at this your body has no reason to trigger hunger and food cravings even when you’re eating very few Calories and it’s burning excess fat (stored Calories) to make up for this. This reaction is as true for carbohydrate as it is for each of the other nutrients. If you eat too little carbohydrate, your body will trigger hunger because it needs a minimum amount of glucose every day to supply the cells that can’t use anything else. If you eat too much carbohydrate, you’ll get fat because too much carbohydrate has both too many Calories and the aforementioned negative effects on blood glucose and insulin levels. So how much is “enough but not too much”? That amount is probably highly variable depending on your lifestyle. A stressful “go-go” day can require a lot of carbohydrate while a relaxed day probably won’t. However, most scientists put the minimum amount of carbohydrate that most people will need in the range of 50-100 grams per day (which is 200-400 Calories from carbohydrate). This is the amount that prevents your body from starting to make glucose out of muscle protein. Since most food labels list the amount of carbohydrate in the food you eat, tracking and controlling amounts is not difficult. Try to eat in the range of 400 Calories from carbohydrate per day. This will usually prevent the hunger and cravings that are triggered by too little glucose. There are several other nutrients that also trigger hunger and cravings when you get too little of them - and which must therefore also be managed similarly. Lo carb diets are all the rage and you can easily see why. While lowering your carbohydrate intake you thusly have to burn less calories, which means less exercise. Our First Family

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Jonita Johnson Genesis 1:26 Let us make man in our image. Man made in love, beauty, and intelligence, man made for intimate fellowship with God his Father. God made Adam then Eve The very 1st family, and it was GOOD. All things were created for man. He had dominion over all things living and growing. God had only given man one limitation. Adam apparently wasnt the greatest communicator, and Eve had so much going on with her gardening and all the animals, her listening skills apparently werent as tuned into him as they should have been. And neither apparently used the reasoning skills they were endowed with. So, one day because they didnt use their mutual skills, Eve fell for the okey-doke of one Satan the serpent (aka: tempter (tress), Lucifer, the wanna-be god, busybody, Loser, etc). Surely you know the kind. Anyway, Satan came at her with a challenge. The challenge to break the limit God had put on them to not eat of the tree of good and evil. Satan challenged their view of God to be right or wrong, he challenged the Word of God as a lie, and the ultimate challenge to them that they would not die; but instead they would be gods too knowing good and evil. Remember everything was good, except for Satan. He was all set to wreak havoc on the perfect world that God created. Adam and Eve had everything at their fingertips for the picking. What Satan showed Eve looked so good, smelled pretty, sounded so sensible, and seemed so innocent she went for his line. Adam followed Eve. They made a choice. Choices, as we now know, have rewards or consequences. Our 1st. family was about to learn their first lesson about independent living, not heeding the promises of God who loves them. Well Adam and Eve had their way, did the forbidden thing, and immediately their eyes were truly open. They knew that they were wrong. They were scared. For the first time Adam and Eve experienced fear. Their loving relationship with Father God was in question. They realized for the first time they were vulnerable. They stood naked facing each other and knew the shame of what they had done, and just how helpless and defenseless they really were. So they tried to hide themselves. Again mistakenly, they thought they could hide from God too. Weve played that game too hide and seek. As God did every evening He came to visit His kids. Adam, Adam where are you? He knew all the time, but dads who love dont just drop their kids because they are wrong. He sought them out, even though He knew what they did and where they were. Adam and Eve were in trouble. They wanted things their way out of Gods law, able to experiment. There is a price to pay when we live outside of God’s coverage. Father God could have destroyed them, right then, and started all over again. But instead He gave them a chance to come clean about what happened. Adam answered. I heard you, but I was afraid, cause I was naked so I hid myself. Adam, who told you that you were naked? Adam did you eat of the tree I commanded you not to eat of? Now the blame game starts. Adam answers, The woman you gave me she gave it to me. God asks Eve, What have you done? Eve is thinking, Im not taking the whole rap for this. She answers, The serpent deceived me, and I did eat. Then God said to the serpent, because you have caused this mess, you are cursed and there will be hostility between you and the woman, and her seed will bruise your head. To the woman He said He would greatly multiply her sorrow, and her husband would rule over her. To the man who had dominion over all things; God said to the man, because I commanded you not to eat of the fruit; the ground is cursed because of your doing; the land will be thorny and hard to till, hard to harvest. You will labor hard to eat of it until you die. From dust you came, to dust you will return. But God allowed them to live. In His love for them He made skins to cover their nakedness. But the 1st family had to leave the garden. They had to leave that safe, beautiful and secure place that their Father had created for them. God gave them what they thought they wanted - independence. Today we are still drawn away from our Father for the allurement of pretty, more knowledge, being gods in one way or another. We are still subject to our curiosity, to our need for independence, self-rule. God gives us what we want; but just as Adam and Eve did, we will always pay the cost to be the boss. Adam and Eve, the 1st family were the groundwork for our society today. The plan of God for family was and is today to be indivisible, united, strong, in belief and actions. We have the choice today to make our homes strong and safe. To teach values that an intruder/family-crasher cannot come in and easily deceive. We have an opportunity still to live in the presence of God and to live in His perfect will for our family. When families are united as God intended them to be, it is hard for outside forces to come between them. We can learn from the experiences of Adam and Eve. Gods plan was for them and us to grow and prosper in His love and provision for us. When we as families put God first, teaching our children the laws of God, and living in the purpose that God created each of us for We are strong. Families are the foundation that communities are built around. Take God our Father out of family we have chaos; limited values, diminishing respect for ourselves and others; kids killing parents, grown folks raping children, lies; deception used to benefit self. Without the value centered family communities do not turn into nations with purpose; and a nation without purpose is lost. Keep our families strong and follow Gods command: Deuteronomy 4:5-9. See I have taught you rules and laws as the Lord my God has commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to possess. Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about these rules and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to Him? And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous rules and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today? Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. Let us remain one nation, one community, one family as in the words in our Pledge of Allegiance of the United States of America We are one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. And as our money states let us so put into action by building our families believe In God We Trust. How to Know if your Depression May be Clinical or Otherwise

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Foras Aje Defined, Medical (aka clinical) depression is a treatable illness that can strike anyone at any age. It usually is diagnosed if a person has been experiencing certain signs and indications for 3-6 months, and this elements shall be discussed in detail shortly. Now, medical (aka clinical depression) can be caused by one or a combination of triggers including biological factors, genetics, difficult life events, negative thinking patterns, physical health problems and some medications. Now that we have covered that part of defining it, let’s see exactly what the common indicators of medical depression are. 1. Irritability and mood swings. 2. Hopelessness and extreme pessimism (a negative outlook on life) 3. Loss of energy, extreme fatigue and tiredness. 4. Loss of interest in hobbies, having a good appearance and even associates and loved ones. 5. Extreme feelings of helplessness and no self worth. 6. Suicidal thoughts (in extreme cases) 7. Insomnia (lack of) or excessive sleep. 8. Inexplicable weight loss or gain thereof, triggered by eating disorders. As many indicators as these may be, this is not a conclusive list as characteristics vary by patient, however these ones listed above are the most common ones. Nonetheless, if you happen to be experiencing most of these and for significant amount of time (3-6 months on average), then it may be best to seek professional help or alternative treatment as applicable to your preference. Die Casting: In General

Friday, December 21st, 2007

By Leon Chaddock What is die casting? Sure, you have heard about it but do you really know what it is? It is a process that uses fluid that is injected into a mold at very high pressures. Probably the most popular type of this type of casting is that which is used to make model, toy cars. For example, Matchbox cars are widely known as they are made from this process. The processing time for most castings of this type is between one and two months. Production rates can be anywhere from 20 to 200 units per hour. The machinery used in the process is huge, heavy and expensive. They work at very high pressures of upwards of 100 megapascals or higher. The main materials that are cast ten to be copper based alloys, zinc based, magnesium based or aluminum based. Of course, toy cars are far from the only use of this process. Die casting does work in a number of industries in fact. A great source of information about these processes comes from the North American Die Casting Association itself.
