Hope: The Encourager

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Ann Stewart Hope is the master encourager. It nudges you forward; it keeps you anticipating the desired outcome. Hope is much more than ‘a-hoping and a-praying’, knock-on-wood, cross-your-fingers kind of wishful thinking. No! The Biblical Hope is the key to a healthy, happy, abundant life! Just imagine life without hope. Yes, millions of people are living in that desperate state. They are depressed, contemplating suicide, and suffering from physical and mental anguish. Without hope there can be no faith! “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Heb. 11:1) Therefore, if you’re not hoping for something good to happen, how can your faith be put to work? Hope is the process of making the vision in your mind’s eye a reality. It is knowing that God wants the very best for you and wants you to wait patiently for it. You know what you want. The more you start thinking about the desired outcome and speaking it out loud, the more real it becomes. “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” (Prov. 13: 12) Do not ever let anyone talk you out of your desires. If you know that your desire is God’s Will for your life, then faith kicks in and makes it happen! Hope is the process of expecting, building patience, and accessing the throne of God. If you are in a desperate situation right now, there is hope! “We glory in tribulations also; knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience experience; and experience, hope; and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” (Rom. 5: 3-5) Every single promise in the Bible is yours! Keep the vision of what you want to accomplish firm in your mind. Do as Abraham did. God swore to him that he would bless and multiply him. Abraham took His word and, “after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.” (Heb. 6: 14-15) How much more than, are you able to hope? Abraham took God’s Word, started walking, and eventually found the place where God directed him. You will find your desired end if you walk according to God’s Promises. However, you must start “walking!” You are led by the Holy Spirit. Leading someone implies that you are in motion. If a good job is your immediate goal, then go out on your quest to find it. Ask God to close the doors on those that are not his best for you, but open the door wide for the one He has waiting for you! Hope is the forerunner of faith. It is “an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast.” (Heb. 6:19) Abraham walked in hope before he was ever the “father of faith.” You were “saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.” As your Christian walk progresses, so does your love. Faith, hope and love are interconnected; but the greatest of these is love. (1Cor. 13:13) Therefore, the more your love for Him grows, the more you hope, and the greater your faith becomes. Love “beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things.” (1 Cor. 13:7) “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” (Rom. 15: 13) Ann is the author of With Wings as Eagles, an inspirational and encouraging testimonial of how we can overcome terrible circumstances in our lives. She is dedicated to help and encourage others to stand strong spiritually, emotionally and physically. Choosing Arts And Crafts That Are In Demand

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Terri Grace Would you like to earn money with your arts and crafts? Are you tired of working for someone other than yourself? Would you like to build a business with your own creativity? Do you wonder how to make your craft marketable? Below are five tips that will help you make an income with your own arts and crafts. Build a business foundation: When building a business to earn money with your arts and crafts, make sure your product is in demand and a marketable craft. When picking your foundation products, make sure they are not seasonal items. You need to pick products that can be sold year round, then add afew holiday crafts throughout the year. If you choose to produce crafts that have a shelf life, try to pick just a few items to sell in addition to the foundation product. By adding a large variety of products to your display you will draw the attention of many different customers. Arts and Crafts that are in demand: Look for items that are needed such as:baby items, home decor, personalized gifts, holiday crafts, jewelry or other personal items. The list could go on and on- your opportunities could be endless. One approach to help you make a decisions on products is to visit boutiques, craft suppliers and other retail stores in your area. By doing this and researching what sells effectively in your area, you can make those very important decisions. Determine necessity: The best-selling crafts are the ones that are needed by consumers, not ones that are simply wanted. If you are making something like beautiful baby quilts, they are far more likely to sell than something like a higher priced wood carving. Make your arts and crafts target your demographic: Where will you be selling your product? Are you selling it at a Craft Boutique? Then perhaps, you should not make a hunting related product, save that for a Hunting and Camping Expo. Instead, make something like a wooden home de’cor product. Don’t follow trends: Trends in crafts come and go. Don’t base your business solely on what’s hot right now. It’s okay to sell trendy and hot items, but make sure you also have a variety of other items for when this trend is no longer popular. By using these five easy steps, you should be ready to choose the arts and or crafts you would like to create for your business. You should start out slow-only making a few of each item until you see what is going to sell. This way you are not going to be left with hundreds of left over products that you just did not market well. The most important thing to remember when starting your own retail business is to have fun with it, and to learn from your mistakes. You will make mistakes, but that is the way a good business is built. Bio: Terri Grace, successful business owner of a boutique for the past 5 years. Owner and entrepreneur of an online boutique. Conclave: Electing a New Pope

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By Amanda Milewski Upon the death of the Pope, a monumental sequence of events unfolds, culminating in a process known as the conclave whereby a new Pope is elected to lead the Roman Catholic faith. Beneath Michelangelo’s revered ceiling in the Sistine Chapel, the College of Cardinals, led by the Cardinal Camerlegno (Cardinal Chamberlain), Eduardo Martinez Somalo, begins the arduous process of selecting the pope’s successor. The Cardinalate currently consists of 117 cardinals from all over the world. In the conclave, an event enduring little change since the thirteenth century, the cardinals take an oath of secrecy, that if broken renders the offender automatically excommunicated from the church. There are no televisions, radios, or newspapers allowed inside the conclave. The Cardinal Electors, almost all of whom were appointed by Pope John Paul II, will vote in a very thorough process of secret balloting where a two-thirds majority is needed to elect a new Pope. The College may vote up to four times a day, but if a new Pope has not been chosen by the third day, then the cardinals cease the voting process for a day of prayer and reflection. Following the day of prayer, the cardinals will commence for another seven votes, then another day of prayer. If after 12 days a pope has still not been elected, then the two-thirds majority vote is negated and a vote by simple majority is instated. The first indication to the outside world that a new pope has been elected is the telling smoke signals. After each voting session a smoke signal is given by burning the ballots. If the voting session is inconclusive, straw is added to the burning ballots to produce black smoke. Conversely, white smoke signals that a new pope has been chosen. In the past the College usually elects a cardinal that has been under consideration for some time. The two requirements for eligibility for the papacy are that the candidates must be a man and Catholic. Although any Catholic male is technically eligible, history shows that the candidates are always cardinals. What is new in this upcoming papal election is the doctrine of Vatican II, which no longer requires cardinals to study Latin. Therefore, the issue of a language barrier is a potential problem that the College may face, since many of the cardinals for the first time in history, will not share a common language. Pope John Paul II was elected in 1978 and has since been revered by Catholics as well as other Christian denominations, Jews, and Muslims for being a “Pope for the people.” More than any of his predecessors, Pope John Paul II traveled the world, visiting and praying with the people of the area. Many attribute the restoration of the Catholic Church to Pope John Paul II. Much speculation has occurred regarding the Pope’s successor. The outcome of the conclave is widely anticipated and only when we hear the Latin phrase “Habemus Papam” come from the dean of the cardinals will the world know who the next Pope will be. Culinary Gift Tips - Beyond the Gift Basket

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By Nicole Martins Preparing early for the holidays is something that we all have good intentions of doing but if youre like most people, there are just too many other things to do first. We vow to save ourselves from the aggravation next year, and to try to get into the holiday spirit with some forethought and organization. Once again the holidays are upon us: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and New Years, (lined up like ducks in a row), and there you are, unprepared. While each occasion does not dictate the need for large gifts or elaborate preparation, there are definitely special times and people who do. Gourmet food, always a welcome gift, is suitable for most any occasion, and a great choice for the hard-to-buy-for person in your life. The gift basket, a staple even before the arrival of the internet, has been reinvented many times over, but is nonetheless, still a gift basket. Its a great starting point but getting back to the internet, the biggest problem youll encounter now is that the choices in gourmet food gifts are endless. Where to Start? You can begin your search for the appropriate gourmet food item by considering the person or event you are buying for. A romantic New Years Eve dinner at home can now include fresh Maine lobster, shipped live, complete with recipes and pot to cook your lobster. Or exotic, hand made chocolates can be shipped to a chocolate lover direct from France. Gourmet appetizers can be ordered for delivery in time for your holiday party. So, with ideas in mind, you can do a little internet research. Using your keywords, for example, fresh Maine lobster delivered live or gourmet hand made chocolate youll find endless information and ideas in blogs and ezines. Keeping a few notes in front of you (to remind yourself of the purpose of your search as it is very easy to get off topic), your starting point will take some very creative slants. Ordering Food Online Since perishable food items must be shipped 2nd day air at most, these can be great choices for last minute gift giving. The turnaround time depends on how fast the company can process the order and most sites let you how long it takes from the time you place your order till the time they ship. Many offer a rush service and can send your order the next day. But it is important to note that orders containing perishables are shipped out Monday through Thursday as the package cannot sit in a warehouse over the weekend. And on that note, make sure the recipient of your gift is not off on a lengthy vacation while the specialty steak gift box you sent sits rotting on the porch. Also, dont forget about yourself this holiday season. Dinner parties can be simple to prepare with oven-ready gourmet meals delivered to your door. Beauty Salon Business Plans

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By Kent Pinkerton Beauty salons have emerged as a competitive business. A good business plan, therefore, plays a key role in the success of a salon. Beauty salon business plans are necessary if a person wants to expand his beauty salon business or is going to start a new salon. A good beauty salon business plan gives an appropriate idea regarding the plan for the business’s growth. Moreover, a well-formulated business plan helps a lot in seeking potential investors. A company with growth potential is always a safer investment than one that functions in a no-profit, no-loss situation. Just planning the business is not enough; business plan writing is also an essential aspect. You should seek the help of a specialist to write a winning business plan that can give you that extra edge. A business plan must contain the market and competitor information. A good hair salon business plan must outline details such as scheduling color, nail, cut and styling appointments. It must take into account the latest trends in cutting, blowing, drying, and selling hair care products. A beauty salon business plan is a stepping stone for the employees and management, as it provides a clear outlook of the company’s plans for the future. The beauty salon business plan also allows you to determine the budget needed for the daily operating costs. One can judge one’s company’s position in the market through this plan. There are many firms offering software packages for a beauty salon business plan. Some even provide free gifts along with the package. One can easily download a fully completed beauty salon business plan from the Internet. A fully completed plan can easily prepare accountant-endorsed financial forecasts and plan, thereby eliminating potential errors. A few third-party software packages do not take responsibility for the content or accuracy of the software. My Russian Girl Chemical Romance - Choosing Matchmaking Online Dating Site

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By Mishael Mordinson There is no exact statistics on how many sites that promote online dating, profiles of single Russian women and their ads, and other dating possibilities are there in Internet. It seems to be overwhelming, thousands and thousand of Russian girls are looking to get married. Some sites have 5000 profiles, some even more. But at the end of the day- all you need is just one good girl! You want to be married, you want to have family and children, you want to be happy and you have got all you need but your only loved sweetheart next to you. You are looking for somebody who would enjoy both going and staying at home and watching movies at home, you are looking for somebody who has the same life values, somebody who doesnt put the career over family and most of all somebody who is going to love you. Well if all that is about you and you decided to give it a chance and try looking for a Russian wife, I want to give few insiders advices on how to chose the right agency for your matchmaking needs. First of all, the agency must have proven ability to find beautiful young women eager to join you. You can tell about that by looking through the gallery of pictures, they must clearly show the appearance of a lady and have to be the right size so you can easily see all the features of ladys figure and face. The gallery doesnt necessarily have to be really big, the truth is that in a Personalized agency, there may be only 200 girls but they are all looking to be married and all are REAL girls, not just beautiful pictures. One really exclusive and high quality Agency must have personal interview with a lady before she joins the agency, during the interview our representative is making sure that the lady is genuinely interested in having serious relationship and meeting a man from abroad. The Ladies gallery has to be kept kept up to date and all the ladies who you can find at the web site should be available, if a girl meets somebody her profile has to be deleted from the agencys site immediately. The marriage agency you want to join has to have good reputation and serious advertisement campaign in the city where it is located; you should feel absolutely confident asking the agency staff questions about their work. The way they answer your questions shows a lot too. If you are a member the answer shouldnt take more than 24 hours and have to be clear and full, if you feel uncomfortable or concerned with the agency dont take the risk, usually decent agency has good customer support staff that answer your questions no problem. Agency that owns its office in the prestigious downtown area of the city is usually worth trusting where renting a little room somewhere should not be a very good sign. The web site of the Agency has to be inviting and simple. Finding a soul mate is not an easy task, so the best thing is to let professional matchmakers help you! Good luck! Sunshine And Outdoor Toy - A Children’s Recipe For Summer Fun

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Andrew Regan As the evenings get longer and the weather gets warmer, your little ones are going to want to be outside more often in order to enjoy the delights of the summer months. And why wouldn’t you want them too? After all, months of being cooped up inside the house will have left them with an avid desire to explore every nook and cranny of the garden, while digging up all the worms they can find in the process! But before their curiosity leads them so far as to put those worms in their mouths, make sure you invest in exciting outdoor toys and activities with which your children can play. For instance, why not buy or make a sandpit in which they can have fun and make sandcastles? Pair this with an inflatable outdoor paddling pool and you’ve got yourself a makeshift beach that your children will love - all within your own back garden! For simultaneous outdoor fun and exercise, your kids will love having a trampoline to play on outdoors at every given opportunity. And there’s no need to worry that your children might fall over and hurt themselves when you’re not watching; many children’s toy specialists and sports shops sell trampolines with safety surrounds, so you know they’ll never be in danger of falling off. Little girls will love having a play house to play in outside. In fact, Wendy houses can make fantastic locations for a doll’s tea party or an excellent prop for an outside children’s birthday bash - as well as remaining a perfect outdoor location to spark your child’s imagination. In turn, little boys will love outdoor climbing frames, and whether your child pretends to be a pirate or simply wants to get some practice on the monkey bars in order to impress his friends in the park, outdoor climbing frames will be a dream come true! Slides and swings can also make a world of difference to young children when they’re playing outdoors - particularly if they have older siblings to help them on their way. Or, if you’re looking for the ultimate in outdoor children’s toys, get a bouncy castle - it’s not just your children who’ll love playing in your garden, but their friends too! But whatever you’re looking for in the way of children’s toys this summer, make sure that fun is your first priority! Whether you buy your child a mini go-kart on a money-is-no-object budget, or you simply spend your time blowing bubbles with your little ones using the soapy mixture made in the kitchen, those leisurely summer evenings are sure to provide plenty of fun for all the family. Just don’t forget the suntan lotion! Andrew Regan is an online, freelance journalist. Small Business Marketing Strategy - Scout Other Shops

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Craig Lutz-Priefert When we say business intelligence most small business owners immediately think of the kind of high-priced information that research companies sell to big corporations. But some of the best business intelligence is just a short drive away from where you are at now. And its free. OK, it will require some of your time. But just think of how often you find yourself with a few moments to spare in between kids ball games or running errands. A quick bit of scouting work in another store can take as little as ten minutes but offer up a goldmine of fresh ideas to bring back. Sound crazy? Maybe. But theres a real value in finding whats working for other businesses. Go to other stores your best customers frequent and see whats working. For goodness sake dont try and clone these other businesses. Your small business must stay true to itself. However, if you look around enough youll find a few nuggets you can bring back and turn into gold for your company. Look for two or three elements in each shops Package that is different from your companys. Start out by looking at the top third of the physical space in the store. Let your eyes rove above the area where the people are mulling about and see whats overhead. Begin with the ceiling and look down, but only for a few feet. Start out by examining whats physically hanging from the ceiling. Signage? Moving or stationary? If moving, is it powered by batteries with a regular, cyclic spinning motion? Or is it simply moving with the currents of the air circulating about the store. Is the signage easy to read? Copy-heavy or graphic-heavy? Is it there to produce an immediate sale? Does it scream out Low Prices–grab as much as you can as fast as you can and dash to checkout? Or is it understated, with an ethereal, graphic-heavy treatment that puts the customers in a mood to browse a bit more, making themselves feel good just to be there in the store, enjoying the shopping experience? Or is the signage pure utilitarian, as mood-setting as a green, cross-T street corner signpost telling you youre at the intersection of Third and Chestnut? Is this a no-nonsense store, where the customers simply need to be steered where to go efficiently and quickly? Are there ceiling fans? Cabana-style, with large wooden blades for effect? Or basic white, simply circulating air about the store? How about the color of the ceiling? Are windows set just below the ceiling, letting light in? How about sound? Is there music pulsating down from the ceiling? What kind? Muzak? Top 40? First, just notice that top third of the store. The section nobody can physically reach. This slice of the store is as unobtrusive to our conscious but just as important as a shade tree on a blistering hot summer day. Just look and learn. Imagine yourself a first-timer to the store, and youve entered with emotions shifted into neutral. Write down your initial impressions of the stores signage in that top third of the store. Wander about the store a bit, if you want. Is the signage consistent up in the top layer? Is the store a bit inconsistent here? Or is it in agreement throughout? No need to spend too much time on the top layer. But we want you to be cognizant of it. The fact is, you probably were already aware of it before you knew you were. As consumers and as humans, we respond to uncounted little inputs into our minds. Some of them matter a great deal and hit us instantly–ike a traffic light. Others are more subtle but matter most at certain times. If the street corner sign at Third and Chestnut is out it doesnt really matter much to the overall environment–until youre cruising down Third looking for Chestnut! Then the usually innocuous fact that its missing suddenly becomes paramount. Next, find a few other areas of the store and ask yourself three broad questions in each: Whats the mood of the area Im in? Purely functional? If its a merchandise area, is the appearance of the display designed to subtly persuade me to buy this merchandise? Or is it simply to pack in as much merchandise as possible in a specific area? Remember, there isnt a right or wrong answer for the business. A discount gas station can make just as much profit as a high-end art gallery; maybe more. Does the mood of the area Im in mesh with the rest of the store? Is there a lack of harmony between, for example, a brightly lit and open-spaced entryway and then a dozen aisles of cluttered merchandise? Is there one outstanding thing I like about any certain area? Is there something I see that I can bring back to my store? If you want, create a little cheat sheet of questions you can use when you go out on a scouting trip to another store. The cheat sheet is a quick reminder of what to look for. Make it the size of a recipe card, and if you copy it on heavy cardstock and then cut it to size you can easily carry it about in purse or pocket and jot notes on it while you are in the store. Remember, a lot of smart marketing is borrowing the best of what works from others. These little scouting time-outs during your errands can add precious new idea-gems you can apply to your business. Remember: Brand (who you are) + Package (your Face to the Customer) + People (customers and employees) = Marketing Success. 2006 Marketing Hawks Craig Lutz-Priefert is President of Marketing Hawks, a firm providing essential marketing vision for small business. State Criminal Records

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

By Jennifer Bailey State criminal records include abbreviated conviction and arrest information from most county and state government agencies. County criminal records are not always reported at the state level. Some state courts make their records available on the Internet, but some states exclude the sensitive personal information online in their criminal records. State courts have to ensure a balance between privacy and accountability while providing criminal data online. While some state courts offer comprehensive access of their records free of charge, some state courts charge a prescribed fee for online accessibility. The accessibility of the court records online to the public users allows them to monitor the fairness and the equality of operations in the judicial system. The criminal records that are provided by state courts online are in different forms ranging from state services to single jurisdictions. Moreover, if the state courts provide the cost-free, uniform, consistent, and user-friendly information via Internet, it will be useful to the public. They should consider these facts while granting electronic access of their records. So providing online accessibility of criminal records is a great challenge to the state courts. Statewide searches of criminal records require 3 to 5 days in most states. Strictly speaking, a county level criminal record check is a better option when compared to a state check from a practical perspective because receiving information from a state court takes much more time to have a complete history of felonies and misdemeanors. Indeed all the state criminal indexes receive their date from the counties only. If any error is there in a county criminal record, then obviously state records may not be genuine and complete. Therefore the best option is searching both statewide and countywide indexes. Criminal Records provides detailed information about criminal records, criminal records online, and more. Run Out Of Dishwashing Detergent?

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By Lisa Chambers No matter how much we stock up on household items when catching sales or buying products in bulk, there’s always those awkward times where we run out of something. It’s always neat to be aware of little tricks just to get by during those times, and I thought I would share a few ideas for when you might run out of dishwashing detergent and can’t run to the store right away. Actually, in all honesty, I don’t even bother with purchasing actual dishwashing detergents. Being a soapmaker, I normally use my soaps that haven’t lived up to my satisfaction and tend to be less moisturizing. (Different soapmakers have different styles and tastes- I usually aim my main focus on my recipes being more moisturizing than any other characteristics and can be a little picky when it comes to my own soaps in that aspect!) I find the ones that don’t meet my personal expectation are great for washing dishes by hand without leaving residue or spots behind. They definitely last longer than a bottle of dishwashing detergent and I find they’re even better with cleaning up extra grimy and greasy messes. If in a pinch, or just trying to save money here and there, any bar soap that’s not heavily moisturizing can be an alternative to dishwashing detergents. Using natural based soaps are even better because you’re also doing the environment a favor. Another alternative is shampoo. If you read the labels, shampoos and dishwashing detergent don’t really have a whole lot of differences in them. The key is “cheap” shampoos usually seem to work best and are actually cheaper in the long run in comparison to regular dishwashing detergents. From my experimenting in the rare times I resort to this method, my favorite for using it this way was VO-5’s Kiwi Lime Clarifying shampoo. It only cost me about 79 cents for a nice sized bottle, doesn’t contain extra silicones and junk in it that could leave a residue, and the citrus and rosemary extracts in it is great for cleaning and is also naturally antibacterial. (Not to mention it smells simply heavenly!)
